2009 President's Report
I would like to thank all Members of the Stud Beef Victoria Committee for their continued input.
2008/2009 has seen a continuation of Spring and Autumn Beef Weeks. We thank our sponsors and their representatives on the Beef Week Committee for their continued support, namely Stock & Land, ANZ, Merial and CGU Insurance. Spring Beef Week this year saw a further decline in numbers, whilst Autumn Beef Week has continued to be strongly supported with over 200 properties open each year. Thank you to all participants. The significant contribution made by Allen Snaith as Chairman of the Beef Week Committee should be applauded as he this year ended his term. We welcome David McKay to this position for 2009 onwards.
The Cattle Handlers Camp was once again held at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds with 86 entrants compared to 66 in 2008. I would like to like to pass on our appreciation to Allen Snaith and his Committee and Volunteers for conducting a well run, very successful event. It was disappointing that The Weekly Times withdrew their sponsorship after a period as naming sponsor. The Education Award won by Sally Snaith this year, is two weeks work placement to Mt Linton Station on the South Island of New Zealand.
Currently the Judging School Sub Committee is working towards holding a 2010 event. Details will be made available when finalised.
Young Beef Victoria is presently in a state of flux with the meeting called at the Royal Melbourne Show not well attended. However there is still some interest and progress will be made.
Stud Beef Victoria again supported National Beef 2009 – Bendigo by providing Inspectors. Thank you to those members who assisted. Sponsorship of the Handlers Classes was again appreciated by the National Beef Committee. Thank you also to Stewards who officiated at the 2009 Royal Melbourne Show.
The Beef Industry Award for significant contribution to the beef industry was this year presented to Mrs Noelene King OAM. All will agree that Noelene has continued to serve the industry with great zest and commitment. Her untiring efforts make her a very worthy recipient of the award.
A special thank you to Zoe Moroz in her first year as Secretary for Stud Beef Victoria. Zoe's efficiency has been excellent and she has revitalised the website and kept it updated, which is most important.
Again, thank you all for your contribution.
