Handlers Camp

male and female

About Us

The Camp was started in 1988 by Stud Beef Victoria to ensure that the next generation of stud grooms are properly educated in the necessary skills and responsibilities of stud grooming.

Participants of all ages are instructed on many different aspects such as how to make halters and beds, how to wash, groom, clip and generally make their cattle look their best for the show ring, all in a fun and caring environment.

The Camp includes a wide range of educational activities culminating in a Cattle Show, Judging Competition and Paraders Competition, where participants learn about the commercial world of cattle breeding and showing.

Fully supervised by Stud Beef Victoria Committee members, participants from all age groups, backgrounds and differing skill levels are encouraged to attend.

Accommodation will be onsite at the Royal Geelong Showgrounds - make sure you pack your swag or camping bed. The sleeping arrangements will be in lockers, and the camp is mid-January so it may be a little warm, so don’t forget your sunscreen!

If you have requested a ballot animal, feed will be supplied. The owner of the animal will also supply a halter, lead and some equipment such as brooms and water buckets. However, if you have any of these items yourself, please bring them with you (clearly named). The more equipment on-hand, the better!

If you are bringing your own animal, you will be required to supply your own feed for the duration of the Camp. Bedding for the animal will be provided.
